Veriato is a serious insider-risk platform. Behavioural risk scoring, session recording, keystroke capture, investigation workflows — the lineage runs back to SpectorSoft and the design intent has always been catching and evidencing insider incidents.
That is worth saying plainly, because the interesting question about Veriato is not whether it works. It is whether you needed it.
A lot of teams end up on enterprise UAM because a compliance requirement pointed there, and then keep paying for it long after the requirement changed — or because someone wanted productivity reporting and bought a security platform that happens to produce some. Both are expensive ways to answer the wrong question.
Work out which half you use
Open your Veriato console and ask what you have actually looked at in the last quarter.
If the answer involves investigations, risk alerts, recorded sessions pulled for a specific incident, or evidence packaged for legal or audit — you are using it as designed and most of this article does not apply to you. Stay on a security platform.
If the answer is dashboards about hours, applications and productivity, you are running an insider-threat system to do a job that activity metadata does at a fraction of the cost and with a fraction of the exposure.
That is the split that decides everything below.
If you need the security half
Teramind is the closest like-for-like: DLP, insider-threat rules, OCR, session recording, on-premises deployment. Comparable weight, comparable admin overhead, comparable price bracket. The Teramind roundup has the detail, and ActivTrak vs Teramind covers the security-versus-management split more generally.
Controlio is worth a look if what you use is mainly the recording and playback rather than the risk scoring — it does that for less, though with a narrower platform matrix. See the Controlio roundup.
Neither of these is a saving in any meaningful sense. They are a sideways move within the same category, which is the right move if the category is right.
If you need the analytics half
Here the change is real, and it is worth being concrete about what you gain and what you give up.

What you give up: the ability to reconstruct exactly what a specific user did. That is not a small thing if you ever need it, and no metadata tool will replace it. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise, including us.
What you gain: a tool your team will not resent, a much smaller pile of sensitive data to secure and eventually disclose, no rule-tuning overhead, and a bill that is typically several times lower.
The storage argument nobody makes
There is a cost to insider-risk tooling that rarely appears in the business case: everything it collects, you then own.
Keystroke logs and recorded sessions are among the most sensitive data an employer can hold. They are discoverable. They are a breach target. They have to be retained, secured, access-controlled and eventually deleted, and every one of those is somebody's job.
If you are carrying that because a regulator or a client contract requires it, fine — that is the deal. If you are carrying it because the tool came that way and nobody turned it off, it is pure liability in exchange for reports you could have had from metadata.
Our honest position
We build the light end of this market, so weigh that accordingly.
ProdView measures activity and app metadata — focus time, meeting load, capacity, working patterns — with no keystroke logging, no OCR, no session recording, screenshots off by default, and employees seeing the same dashboard their manager does. One agent across Windows, macOS and Linux. $4.99 per user per month, ₹399 in India, free for three seats.
We are not a Veriato replacement in the sense of doing what Veriato does. We are a replacement in the sense that most companies running Veriato for productivity reasons would be better served by something like us, and would save a lot of money and goodwill making the switch.
If you have an active insider-risk mandate, ignore all of that and keep the security platform.
