- Activity metadata — which apps and sites are used, and for how long. Answers most management questions (capacity, focus, meeting load) with the least sensitive data. This is the right default for productivity analytics.

- Transparency. Can employees see their own data? This single factor predicts whether a rollout is accepted or resented.

- Honest metrics. Prefer patterns and context over a single "productivity score" that punishes thinking and reading.
- Security posture. SOC 2 or equivalent, encryption, and clear data-retention controls.
- Total value. Include add-ons, minimums and currency, not just the sticker price.
